Florida Mom Accused of Leaving Four Children Home Alone While She Went on Cruise

There are child neglect cases that are difficult to understand, and then there are cases where the allegations leave you staring at the screen wondering how this could possibly have happened.

Twenty nine year old Nathalie Belizaire of North Miami Beach, Florida, is facing four counts of child neglect after authorities say she left her four children home without adult supervision while she went on a three day cruise to the Bahamas.

Among those children was a baby who was just two months old.

Belizaire has denied the allegations, and the criminal case against her remains pending. But the allegations outlined by police are disturbing.

Who is Nathalie Belizaire?

Nathalie Belizaire is a 29 year old Florida mother of four who was arrested on September 28, 2026, after returning to Miami from a three-day cruise to the Bahamas.

According to court documents, Belizaire faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, one involving each of her children.

The case quickly attracted national attention ecause of both the ages of the children and the circumstances under which police say they wer discovered.

The Cruise to the Bahamas

Authorities say Belizaire had purchased a ticket for a three-day Bahamas cruise departing miami on September 25th.

According to investigators, she boarded the Carnival Conquest and left Flordia while her children remained behind.

Taking a vacation as a parent obviously isn't the problem.

The enormous question in this case is: Who was supposed to be taking care of the children while she was gone?

Police allege the answer was no one.

A WhatsApp Post Raises Questions

The investigation reportedly began after the father of Belizaire's youngest child saw something concerning on social media.

According to the arrest affadavit, he saw a post on Belizaire's WhatsApp story on Setptember 24th that appeared to show the purchase of a Carnival cruise ticket.

He told police that Belizaire had said she intended to leave the children with their great-grandmother while she was away.

That would have been a perfectly ordinary childcar arrangement.

Except authorities say it never happened.

The Great Grandmother Says the Children Never Arrived

Police later spoke with the children's grea-grandmother.

According to the arrest affadavit, she confirmed that Belizaire had told her she planned to bring the children over because she was going out of town.

But she reportedly told investigators that Belizaire never brought the children to her.

That detail is particularly important because it directly conflicts with the apparent understanding that the children would be staying with a relative.

Meanwhile, Belizaire was allegedly already on her cruise.

A Father Goes to the Apartment

On September 26th, the father of Belizaire's 2 month old daughter went to the family's apartment.

He reportedly didn't have a key.

But he could see that the television was on through the blinds and could hear children inside the residence.

Concerned that his infant daughter and the other children might be inside without an adult, he called 911.

Police and emergency personnel responded.

What they allegedly discovered inside turned the situation into a criminal investigation.

Police Find Four Children Inside

North Miami Beach police officers ultimately forced their way into the apartment.

Inside were all four children-with no adult supervising them, according to authorities.

Police reported finding the children together in a bathroom. Among them were Belizaire's 2 month old baby and a 2 year old child.

Just sit with that for a second.

A two month old cannot feed herself. She cannot change herself. She cannot regulate her environment. She cannot call 911.

Whatever the eventual legal outcome of this case, the ages of these children make the allegations especially frightening.

The Children Were Reportedly Hiding in the Bathroom

One detail has stayed with me more than almost anything else about this story: police say the children were hiding together in the bathroom when officers entered the home.

Body camera footage reportedly captured officers discovering the children there.

We don't know exactly what the children were thinking or experiencing, and I don't want to speculate about their emotional state.

But we don't need speculation to understand how vulnerable four unsupervised children can be-particularly when one is an infant and another is only two years old.

Another Relative Reportedly Received a Message

Investigators uncovered another unusual detail.

Belizaire's brother reportedly told police that his sister messaged him on Saturday evening and asked him to check on the children.

That raises an obvious question investigators will likely have to untangle:

What childcare arragements, if any, had actually been made before Belizare left?

There is an enormous difference between arranging for another responsible adult to supervise children and contacting someone after you've already left town to ask them to check in.

Exactly what happened here will ultimately have to be established through evidence.

Police Wait for Her at PortMiami

Investigators determined that Belizaire was aboard the cruise and was scheduled to return to Miami on Monday.

Authorities were waiting.

When the ship returned to PortMiami, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers took Belizaire into custody before she was turned over to North Miami Beach police.

Imagine returning home from a Bahamas cruise and being met at the port by law enforcement.

Belizaire was subsequently arrested on four child neglect charges.

Belizaire Denies the Allegations

It is important to include Belizaire's side of the story.

Her public defender stated during her initial court appearance that Belizaire denies the allegations. She has not yet entered a plea, according to reporting on the case.

belizaire also told reporters after leaving jail that she had made arrangements for someone to care for the children and accused the father of her youngest child of setting her up. The father denied the allegation and said he contacted police because he was concerned about his daughter.

Those competing accounts will be important as the case moves through court.

The Judge Reacts to the Allegations

Belizaire appeared before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer, who openly expressed concern while reviewing the allegations.

The judge questioned how four young children-particularly a newborn-could have ended up without adult supervision.

Bond was set at $10,000, and the judge issued stay away orders involving the children.

The children were reported safe and placed in foster care following the incident.

Belizaire's arraignment is schedued for November 24th.

Four Children Who Deserved to be Safe

This is the part that makes me angry.

Not the cruise itself.

Parents are allowed to have lives.

Parents are allowed to travel. Parents are allowed to take vacations without their children.

But children have to be left with a responsble adult who has actually agreed to care for them.

According to police, these four children were instead discovered inside an apartment without adult supervision while their mother was hundreds of miles away on a cruise ship.

One of them was TWO MONTHS OLD!

Thankfully, the children were found alive and reported safe. Belizaire is entitled to the presumption of innocence, and the prosecution will have to proe its allegations in court.

But whatever the criminal case ultimately establishes, four children were found in that apartment, and the circumstances surrounding how they ended up there deserve answers.

Because a vacation can be rescheduled.

A child's safety and life cannot.
